BRYN DU LIFE LOCAL SERIES
Strategies to cut energy costs & carbon at home
This event explored practical, cost-effective strategies for improving home energy efficiency—because the cleanest and greenest energy is the energy you never use. Small changes can lead to big savings, greater comfort, and a smarter path toward future investments in renewable energy. This Go Green Granville event was co-sponsored by the Bryn Du Life Local speaker series.
As Granger Street filled with costumed trick-or-treaters, Go Green Granville volunteers handed out treats to kids and Hefty ReNew bags to parents with the message "Don’t let litter haunt our community — recycle your candy wrappers!" Hefty's special orange bags make it easy to collect candy wrappers and other hard-to-recycle plastics such as produce bags, bubble wrap and foam containers. Just fill the orange bag, tie it up, and place it in your Rumpke recycling bin — the materials will be turned into new products like decking and park benches.
Go Green Granville welcomed Andrew Leber and Madeline Fleisher from Electrify Central Ohio who presented information about ways to reduce climate impacts of home energy use via electrification. Participants learned about the latest innovations in air sourced heat pumps, convection ovens and electric water heaters. Electrify Central provides contractor referrals, cost calculators, product recommendations, and resources on creating a climate-smart home.
Considering adding rooftop or ground-mounted solar to your home or business? Denison University Sustainability Director Jeremy King presented on the solar installation process, from assessing your site’s potential to maximizing financial incentives and navigating net metering rules.
In March 2025, Go Green Granville hosted a special Electric Vehicle event featuring a panel of Granville resident EV owners, a "car show" featuring various electric vehicles, plus entertainment by talented local musicians playing fun car-themed songs. Go Green Granville leadership team member Frank O'Brien-Bernini shared the environmental impacts, technology, tax credits and incentives, vehicle options, plus the personal logistics of owning an EV and strategies to avoid range anxiety.
